Traditionally UPSs have used internal sealed lead acid batteries to “support the load” when the grid power fails. This normally for a short while to allow a generator to start, or in the case where no generator is present, allow IT staff to gently power down servers and other critical equipment.
Because of this occasional “standby” operation, lead acid batteries installed in UPSs, have in past easily lasted 4-5 years. That’s not the case anymore… now that load shedding can occur twice daily and has become a regular occurrence – lead acid batteries are just not lasting.
Lead acid technology cannot be regularly being cycled to 100 % Depth of Discharge (DoD) without incurring irreversible damage. Even worse in many cases the UPS does not get the time required to recharge the lead acid batteries before the next load shedding cycle. This shortens the batteries life even more dramatically.
Fact – Even the highest quality lead acid batteries now need to be replaced in months, rather than 4 – 5 years.
To solve this problem Powermode engineers has designed and manufactured the Q-on ionbank 2.4 li—ion battery. This 2.4 kilo-watt hour (kWh) battery coupled with the highly effective Q-on I Series UPS is a highly cost effective and reliable battery solution for UPSs. The ionbank 2.4 comes standard with a 10 year guarantee and in fact will operate far beyond that. The Lifetime total cost of ownership is at least 3 – 4 times better than lead acid batteries. Importantly the battery is safe and environmentally friendly and fully recyclable after 10 years or reliable operation.
